STRESS S + Е: степ 'STEPPE' Sometimes the place of stress can differentiate case forms that are otherwise identical; thus, here in the G.D.L.sg.: N. G. D. A. I. L. V. Singular степ степу степу, -ові степ степом степу степе! Однина і Plural - Множина степи Р. степів Н. степам Д. степи 3. степами О. степах М. = N. Кл. STRESS ЕЕ (Е + Е): робІТНЙК 'WORKER' N. G. D. А. І. L. V. Singular - Однина робітник робітника робітникові (-у) робітника робітником робітникові (-у) робітниче! (-нику!) Worthy of note are the competing endings (= more than one possible) in three of the cases, D.L.V.jg; note the stress shift in the W.sg. when the ending is -e. Note also that where a sequence of two datives occurs, for instance in a phrase consisting of two masculine nouns or noun + a name, one of the competing dative endings (viz. -y or -ові, -ю or -еві, -єві in the soft or mixed stems: see below) will occur with one form, the other with the accompanying form: дідові Сергію товаришеві Павлу |
