The G.pl. draws our attention here as before: in this instance а -д-, historically present in the stem but lost in pronunciation in the presence of the following ц, reappears before the vowel of the G.pl. 2.3.3.3 Neuter nouns: soft stems in -я This class of nouns is extremely large in Ukrainian, as it includes all those nouns formed from verbal stems: these are 'deverbal nouns' (compare the verb питати Чо ask' in the present instance), the formation of which is described in sections 2.5.1 and 2.5.2 on word formation.
