See 6.3.1.2.1 on stress and consonant mutations. 6.3.1.2.1 The -и- type - stress patterns and consonant mutations In addition to the differences noted above, Conjugation II (especially those of the -и- type) differ from the vast majority of Conjugation I verbs in two ways: STRESS Stress is generally not stable, but will shift in the non-past in most verbs when stress is on -й-ти; stress is stable in the past. MUTATIONS Consonant mutations are much more common within Conjugation II paradigms: if a consonant can mutate, it will in the \sg Labial stems are an exception in this regard, as the mutation takes place in the \sg and 3pl.
