The noun 79 stress se: товариш 'comrade', 'companion' N. G. D. A. I. L. V. Singular - Однина товариш товариша товаришеві (-у) товариша товаришем товаришеві (-і) товаришу! The next noun could easily be included in the E 4- E type described above, but it merits separate consideration because of the nature of the stem-final consonant. We noted, among the soft-stem nouns, those in which a historically soft final -рь was hardened in absolute final position. There is a body of masculine nouns in which this hardened -p has spread to other forms beyond just the N.sg: stress e + e: повістяр 'story teller', 'novelist' N. G. D. A. I. L. V. Singular - Однина повістяр повістяра повістяреві (-у) повістяра повістярем повістяреві (-і) повістяре! Plural - Множина повістярі повістярів повістярам повістярів повістярами повістярах = N. Н. Thus we note the hardness of -p throughout the singular, although some of the case endings (D.sg, L.sg.) are clearly soft-stem variants; the clearest indication of the stabilization of hardened -p in the paradigm is in the A.IG.sg. and D.L.I./?/. Declined in identical fashion are маляр 'painter' (EE or SS: G.sg. маляра/маляра), гусар 'hussar' (SS: G.sg гусара), and others. 2.3.2.5 Pluralia tantum nouns; nouns in ~ин (A) There are few nouns that may be said to be irregular among the masculines. One such noun, штани 'trousers' (E type stress), is similar to the femi- nines двері and радощі: in other words, they are not truly irregular but only exist as plural forms, and as such the V. = N./A.
