The adjective 157 Suffixes Notes Examples -еньк- -есеньк- -есн- -ИВ- -ИМ- -ИН-, -1H- Evaluative: affectionate, attenuative (very common). Colloquial. Evaluative: very affectionate and rather intensive. See -еньк- above. Denominal. Ancient and unproductive. Denominal, denoting presence of, capacity for, or inclination to in the person described of the particular quality. Also deverbal, indicating inclination or capacity related to the action described by the deriving verb. Also occurs with -лив-. Participial (present participle passive), Church Slavonic. Conveys ability, permissibility. Denominal (first- declension personal names and the noun мати). Note the consonantal alternations. Rare with animals, where the genitive or the suffix -ач- is more likely. біленький 'white' (from білий 'white'), кругленький 'round' (from круглий 'round'), багатенький 'rather rich' (from багатий 'rich'), глибоченький 'quite deep' (from глибокий 'deep') білесенький 'lovely and white', гарнесенький 'really lovely' (doubly derived from гарний 'lovely', 'beautiful') небесний 'heavenly' (from небо 'sky'), словесний 'oral', 'verbal' (from слово 'word') лінивий 'lazy' (from лінь 'laziness'), розсудливий 'prudent', 'reasonable' (from розсуджувати/розсудити 'to decide', 'judge', 'consider') припустимий 'admissible', 'supposed', несходимий 'limitless', 'immeasurable' доччин (дочка), материн (мати), Ольжин (Ольга). Note орлиний - орлячий. |
