М Цей also appears as оцей, where the meaning is somewhat reinforced by initial о-. Цієї and цією may appear, in dialects and poetry, respectively as цеї/ції and цею/цію. The identically declined and synonymous pronoun сей is obsolescent and may be considered restricted to set expressions, such as сього року 'this year', сьогодні 'today', сю ніч 'tonight', and compounds, for example, сьогобічний 'on this side of a river', сьоголітній 'of this summer', сьогорічний 'of this year', сьогосвітній 'earthly', сьогочасний 'present', 'contemporary', сьогочасність 'present times'. той 'і N. G. D. A. I. L. that > Masculine Neuter той те того тому = nom. or gen.= nom. тим тому (тім) Feminine та тієї/тої тій ту тією/тою тій Plural ті тих тим = nom. or gen. тими тих н. р. д. 3. О. М. Той also appears as отой (with a slightly reinforced meaning) and, rare and typical of the west, the 'remoter' тамтой, as in тамтой світ 'the other world' (= lit. 'that world yonder, faraway'). Тієї and Тією may appear, in dialects and poetry, respectively as тої/тії/теї and тою/тію (тою is quite frequent). Rarer and more localized are the forms tot, тота, тоте respectively for той, та, те. Note that there is retraction of stress one syllable to the left in the genitive and locative singular masculine and neuter and animate accusative singular masculine when immediately preceded by a preposition. A couple of examples: Ця/Та книжка не моя, а його. This/That book is not mine, but his. У цьому офісі працює мій тато. My dad works in this office. |
