186 Ukrainian: A Comprehensive Grammar сам/сама/само (nominative plural самі, and declines like an adjective, thus merging with самий above) 'alone', 'one's self, 'in person', for example, Я застала його самого. І caught him on his own/him himself. Він сам на білому світі. He's all alone in the world. Річ гарна сама по собі. The thing is good in itself. Він сам не свій. He's not himself, out of sorts. бути в воді по саму шию to be in water up to one's very neck бути в боргах по самі вуха to be up to one's ears in debt 4.5.3 NEGATIVE PRONOUNS The negative pronouns ніхто, ніщо decline like хто (masculine singular), що (neuter singular), but prepositions occur between the prefix ні- and the declined form of хто, що, for example, ні у кого, ні на кого, ні з ким, ні до чого. The example given for the locative in the table is purely illustrative. ніхто N. G. D. A. I. L. Thus: 'no-one'/ніщо 'nothing' ніхто нікого нікому нікого ніким ні на кому ніщо нічого нічому нічого нічим ні на чому (чім) н. р. д. 3. О. М. Абсолютно ніхто не цікавиться його працею. Absolutely no one is interested in his work. Я нікому не дам відповіді. І shan't give an answer to anyone. У Львові вона ні з ким не знайома. She doesn't know anyone in L'viv. Hi про що ми не розмовляли. We weren't talking about anything. |
